Our final Conference on Food Resilience, Access & Equity (CFRAE) session at The Future of Food at SXSW, “Everything Old Is (Not) New Again: Black Farm Legacies,” will include a small panel of food entrepreneurs, community leaders, growers, and farmers discuss Black Farm Legacies:
- The history of Black farming in the US, post-reconstruction to now;
- The current challenges around ownership and recognition of the Black farmer’s essential role in the agricultural, foodways, and economic growth of the United States;
- The fraught history with the government around support for black farm ownership;
- The current growth and investment by Black-led farm and trust projects around the US;
- The influx of Black and brown agricultural power with new arrivals to the US
